Steinhoff Scholarship for Environmental Sciences

Applicants must:

• Be Bermudian or have applied for Bermuda Status (with supporting letter from the Bermuda Immigration Department).
• Have completed the first year of a three-year Bachelor’s degree, the second year of a four-year undergraduate degree, or be enrolled in a Master’s or Doctorate programme (full-time or part-time) in a related field.
• Be in good academic standing and provide current transcripts or, where grades are unavailable, a letter from tutors confirming academic performance.
• Submit a letter of application with at least two references, detailing their field of study, achievements, career goals, and relevant work or volunteer experience (including service at BAMZ if applicable).
• Submit an essay of at least 500 words explaining why they chose Environmental Science and Conservation, and outlining career aspirations.
• Provide a medical certificate.
• Submit a full application by 30th April each year.

Selection Process

• Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed by the Scholarship Committee in June.
• Candidates may hold other scholarships or grants, provided the total funding does not exceed the cost of study.
• Work, volunteer experience, and practical conservation involvement will be considered.
• Continued payment of the scholarship requires proof of academic standing for each semester.
• Scholarship holders are encouraged to participate in practical internships at BAMZ or other conservation institutions and to return to Bermuda after completing their studies.
• The Scholarship Committee reserves the right not to award the scholarship if no suitable candidates are identified.
