The Bermuda Zoological Society and the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo said they would like to express their gratitude to the many different organisations that participated in the World Oceans Day Open House held on Saturday [June 7] at BAMZ.

The day saw more than 1100 people visit, taking advantage of free entry and enjoying a wide range of activities, including animal encounters every 15 minutes, children’s crafts and food stalls, as well as the Get Salty! Breath holding demo and contest hosted by I Am Water Conservation Trust and Kids on the Reef.

Principal Curator, Dr. Ian Walker, shared: “The celebration of World Oceans Day is very important to us at BAMZ and BZS, as it is our hope to instill a love for our oceans in the youth of Bermuda, so that they will go on to lead the way in conserving and protecting our marine environment.

“The day proved to be very successful, with many coming to take advantage of all the wonderful activities available, but we are most thankful to our many partners that came to share their amazing work with the public.”

“We are especially thankful to all those organisations that joined us, including BIOS, Bermuda Ocean Explorers, The Sargasso Sea Alliance, Dolphin Quest, The Marine Debris Task Force, Blue Halo, BREAM and Reef Watch, the Ocean Support Foundation, the Lionfish Task Force, BUEI, GreenRock!, Plastic Tides, Ocean Vet, KBB, Groundswell, the Bermuda Sub Aqua Club and Pangaea Exploration.

“We also wish to express our thanks to the Marine Resources Section of the Department of Environmental Protection and the Department of Conservation Services, as well all our staff and volunteers who helped make the day a success.”
