Global Indemnity Re Donates To Local Charities
Bernews
Thursday, October 26, 2017

Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art has praised Global Indemnity Re for their annual charitable giving programme after the arts and education organization was one of four local charities awarded.

In 2013, the Bermuda-based insurance/reinsurance provider started a philanthropic giving programme and over the past four years more than 10 different organizations have benefitted from the $320K that the company has donated.

This year, the four organizations received $12.5K each from the company. The charities include Masterworks Museum of Bermuda Art, WindReach, Bermuda Zoological Society [BZS] and the Bermuda Foundation for Insurance Studies [BFIS].

Marie-Joelle Chapleau, chief operating officer at Global Indemnity Re, said: “Our annual donations are based on multi-segment sectors. We provide support for the education, environment, health, and arts and culture.”

“Since Bermuda has been our host for more than 10 years, we believe that it is important to help the success of the local community in many different sectors. Since the start of our philanthropic strategy, GIRe has given back more than $320k to the island.”

The programmes that will benefit from this year’s donations include the turtle project at the BZS, the therapeutic and educational experiences at WindReach, and the success of training and educating Bermudians towards the success of the insurance industry through the BFIS.

Tom Butterfield, founder and creative director of Masterworks, said the donation will help to continue to assist in producing installations at the Museum as it heads into its 10th year as a Museum in 2018.

“We’re very pleased that there are businesses on the island that really have a social conscious and that they are donating funds to those organizations that are doing work that benefits the local community,” said Mr Butterfield.

He added: “Exhibits are one of the more accessible forms of arts education and this is a real shot in the arm for our exhibits that seek to engage the viewer. We’re thrilled that some of this money can go towards our educational programmes.”
